A visitor centre has been opened in Bátaapáti, in one of Hungary’s “most mysterious” industrial facilities, which is certainly remarkable in terms of interior design. The country’s radioactive waste storage facility badly needs this visitor centre also because laymen are highly interested in the security issues associated with radioactive waste locked for thousands of years in layers of granite. Upon entering the ground floor of this slightly nondescript flat-roof building, which was built in the ‘70s and is located next to the entrance of the waste storage facility, people not only get answers to their questions related to security but also gain an aesthetic experience accurately illustrating that hazardous waste is being treated using state-of-the-art technologies at the facility.
